The Real Madrid team demanded a change of referees after this morning’s press conference and will issue a statement.
The Copa del Rey final between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid is in jeopardy. According to Josep Pedrerol on El Chiringuito’s social media, the Real Madrid club is considering the possibility of not playing the match.
Tensions erupted after the referees’ press conference. De Burgos Bengoetxea and González Fuertes appeared before the media, and their statements did not go down well at the Real Madrid club.
Real Madrid demands an apology
Pedrerol revealed that Real Madrid’s lawyers are already working on an official statement. In it, the club will demand a public apology from the referees.
The anger is monumental. They consider González Fuertes’s statements to have been « a provocation » and reveal a clear bias against them.
Real Madrid asked the RFEF to change referees. The response was a resounding « no. » The federation ratified De Burgos and González Fuertes without hesitation.
As an immediate measure, Real Madrid decided not to attend any prior institutional events. There will be no training session at La Cartuja, nor will there be a press conference or official photos.
The club believes the atmosphere created prevents the match from being played normally. They assert that they feel attacked and treated unfairly.
At the press conference, González Fuertes responded forcefully. He assured that the referees are « more united than ever » and that measures will be taken. He even spoke of something « historic » coming.
These words, according to club sources, are unacceptable. They see them as a direct threat in the run-up to a final.
Real Madrid has long denounced what it considers a « corrupt » system. In January, it published a letter demanding profound refereeing reform.
Now, with the Copa del Rey final on the horizon, the conflict has reached its most critical point. If there is no action from the refereeing establishment, the club might not show up. The final is up in the air. Everything depends on the next few hours. And on whether the referees rectify their actions.
